The visit of the cave and the museum will teach students the long history of Homo Sapiens in Mas-d'Azil: from the Aurignacians (39 years old) to farmers, breeders, sedentary Neolithic people through Magdalenian artists (000 years old) and the Azilian snail hunters.

Recognized as an exceptional site for its spectacular dimensions, children will discover the life of the first men who occupied these places.

Guided tour of the cave and the interpretation center

Before entering the cave, children will follow a fun, interactive and digital route in the interpretation center to discover the lives of the first men who visited it.
Several themes are discussed: geology, paleontology and prehistory through the documented presence of Aurignacian, Magdalenian and Azilian cultures.
The cave was an important prehistoric habitat, its visit allows you to discover the places of life and activity of prehistoric men and, more importantly, to see where the many decorated objects were found, including the famous “Faon aux birds ”, which still make the world famous of Mas-d'Azil today.

The Museum of Prehistory

Located in the village, it will make you discover the know-how of the occupants of the cave thanks to the objects found, proof of a great technical and artistic prowess.

We offer a free guided tour during “Discovery Wednesdays” in order to discover the main events and activities scheduled as part of educational outings. A Wednesday in September or in the spring, from 14 p.m. to 17 p.m. at the Prehistory Park and (or) at the Château de Foix.
